Overview

The Service Engineer is an advanced-level technical role responsible for leading the diagnosis, programming, and remediation of complex service issues. This role exceeds the scope of a Senior Service Technician, combining field expertise with programming and system integration capabilities. The Service Engineer serves as a subject matter expert, technical escalation resource, and technical leader in support of both internal teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform system-level diagnostics, reprogramming, and troubleshooting to resolve complex service issues across one of the assigned technology platforms.
  • Lead reconfigurations, software updates, and performance optimizations across integrated systems.
  • Support testing and validation of system functionality against performance standards.
  • Interface with engineering teams, manufacturers, and customer stakeholders to resolve service challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to service technicians, including guidance on troubleshooting methods, system logic, and configuration standards.
  • Provide escalation support for advanced technical service tickets, involving system failures, programming issues, or integration challenges.
  • Document all service activities, updates, and remediation steps following company procedures.
  • Ensure all work activities adhere to company safety, quality, and operational standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

 

  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience in field service, systems installation, or systems integration, with 2+ years in a senior or lead-level capacity.
    • Proven programming or configuration experience across any of the following technology sectors:
      • AV (e.g., control system programming, DSP configuration, signal routing)
      • Security (e.g., access control, video surveillance system configuration, VMS platforms)
      • Networks (e.g., switch and router configurations, IP schema management, DAS (digital antenna systems), Wi-Fi systems)
    • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills across hardware, software, and network layers.
    • Ability to interpret drawings, system schematics, and configuration documentation.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal teams and customers.
    • Self-motivated and capable of leading field-based service activities independently.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Crestron, AMX, Extron, Lenel S2, Genetec, Cisco, etc.).
  • Experience with integrated system platforms and programming environments.
  • Proficient in documenting system configurations, service logs, and escalation notes.
